O’s Notes: Branford has got to be one of the most versatile players in the Marsalis clan, or amongst all musicians for that matter. He’s played rock, pop, R&B and all types of jazz.“Upward Spiral“is a swinging set that features talented crooner Kurt Elling commanding attention on the microphone. Branford shadows him with warm sax. Eric Revis (p), Justin Faulkner (d) and Joey Calderazzo (p) round a strong band. This is yet another victory for Marsalis with music that is centered on jazz but is approachable by a wide audience.
