O’s Notes: Alto saxophonist and composer Nick Biello has been a sideman for many artists and made a notable presence for himself on the NYC jazz scene. He released his debut album, Vagabond Soul in 2017 and though we just received a copy, it still sounds fresh! Phil Markowitz (p), John Benitez (b), Clarence Penn (d), Paul Jones (t-sax), Andrew Renfroe (g), and Vincent Lionti (viola) help Nick consummate a strong jazz fusion album. Renfroe takes the helm on the title track along with the dueling saxophones. Nick wails on “You Stepped Out of a Dream” and “Spiraling” and Benitez contributes a strong solo on “Piccolo”, just. a few of the highlights in a memorable session.
