O’s Notes: Varuna is an introspective set featuring vocalist Laurie Antonioli and pianist Richie Beirach They trace the last ten years of performances and select the best music for this encounter. We last encountered Laurie in her tribute to Joni Mitchell; she is more reflective of herself in this effort. Bassist Pepe Burns adds a marked punch for four of the thirteen selections while the duo dominate the set otherwise. It is a fair effort.
