O’s Notes: Argentine jazz singer Karen Souza continues to evolve her sultry, slow and seductive signature on“Velvet Vault, her latest release. She extends this style to each of her renditions of classic tunes. The focal point is romance across the entire set including two originals. There is a touch of country on “Valerie” but it’s mostly contemporary jazz ballads. Guest artist Toku (vocals, flugelhorn) joins Karen on “You Got That Something”, one of the highlights of the session.
