O’s Notes: Jonathan Barber is a drummer, vocalist, composer and bandleader who put together an inspiring collection of music on“Vision Ahead, a strong collection of jazz-fusion including vocals that stress perseverance. Barber composed the music in the aftermath of the unexpected passing of his brother, a way to lessen the grief and forge ahead. Taber Gable (keyboards), Andrew Renfroe (g), Godwin Lewis (sax) and Matt Dwanszyk (b) join him. Guest vocalists Denise Renee and Sasha Foster appear on four selections notably “Time Will Tell”. It’s a refreshing take with strong performances by Lewis and Renfroe. Highlights are “Vision Ahead” and “Mr. JB”.
