O’s Notes: Visions & Friends“is the second album from drummer Bob Holz that we’ve reviewed in the last few months! It is almost as good as“A Vision Forward“(4/3). Among the talented lineup of musicians are Larry Coryell (g), Randy Brecker (t), Billy Steinway (keys) and Mike Schoeffter (b). We liked the opener, “Flat Out” with strong solos from Alex Machacek (g), Steinway, Schoeffter and Brecker. From there they touch a bit of blues, ballads and some Latin but it’s mostly rockin’ jazz-fusion, all originals by Holz and the band. “Bob Blues” and “Take It From Maurice” are other standouts in a good set.
