O’s Notes: David is a journalist, music critic, professor at Columbia University and a songwriter. Waiting for the Angel is the first album consisting lyrics written entirely by David Hajdu. Renee Rosnes, Fred Hersch, Jill Sobule, and Michael Leonard wrote the music. It comes together as warm “angelic” ballads sung by Jo Lawry, Michael Winther and Hadju’s wife Karen Oberlin. It is a pleasurable set.
