O’s Notes: Alex is a young pianist who has music that begs to be heard. He’s playing neobop tunes most of which he composed. The music is fresh and it pops. His quartet is tight with Alain Bradette (sax), Danny Gottlieb (d) and Chris Queenan (b) on top of every beat. They open with “Blues for GB” dedicate to Greg Bush, Clements’ childhood piano instructor. They vary the pace including ballads like “Waiting for you…” and “Old Balsam” featuring Bradette. All of the songs are good especially “Emily’s Song” written for his daughter when she was an infant and modified as she’s grown (now 9)! You won’t be disappointed with this one.
