O’s Notes: Gregory has a warm baritone voice that is inviting on these eleven mostly original selections. He is a jazz singer with excellent tone and pitch, rare in his register. The theme of the program centers on water: tears, storms, streams, rivers and the cleansing powers. The band is centered on Chip Crawford (p) and bassist Aaron James who anchor strong support throughout the set. Kafele Bandele adds a rich trumpet solo on “Skylark”. Powers taps into our social consciousness with “1960 What?” and then breathes romance into “But Beautiful” before wrapping the set with a resounding solo on “Feeling Good”.
