O’s Notes: Royce is a bebop guitarist that is easy to enjoy listening to. He plays with that campfire groove! His trio includes bassist Bob Bowen and Hud O’Brien playing an upright piano. The recording was made in Hud’s living room and has an intimate feel. We enjoyed “I Fall In Love Too Hard”, “Not So Secret Love” and the bouncy “See Jam Blues”. But there’s not a loser in the set, eleven of Campbell’s compositions, many close takes to classics with similar names.
