O’s Notes: Guitarist Burr Johnson leads a rock-jazz-fusion trio with bassist Al Payson and drummer Thierry Arpino. “Slinky” and “Slinky’s Big Brother” have a funky groove that will get your head bobbing as the trio play off of each other nicely while Johnson displays his prowess without showing off. “Guitar School” is one of a few cool vocals in a sea of honky honk instrumentals. Our favorite was “That 70s Song”. The music is driving, with positive energy and a lot of syncopation. Johnson’s trio sounds like a larger ensemble. We liked it. That’s What It Is!
