O’s Notes: Denise invited Geoff Keever to produce her latest recording on Savant. He agreed and utilized his creative freedom to construct am album that is rich in both music and voice. Donatelli has warm tones that she folds onto the music instead of on top of it. The result is a session that will appeal to a broad audience. The program includes popular standards as well as some contemporary ballads like Chick Corea’s “Crystal Silence”. We enjoyed the subtle Latin beats of “Like An Old Song” and Denise’s scatting on “Beloved”, a couple of highlights in a strong set.
