O’s Notes: At the start of “Cherokee” we almost dismissed this as a trashing of jazz standards by a trio of rockers. But as Michael Manring began his bass solo and fused it with some excellent work on drums from Vic Stevens, we had to take note. These guys are not only talented, the groove they strike warrants attention. Scott McGill plays the rhythms and gives us a dose of fusion guitar from time to time (“Maiden Voyage” is an example) but it’s the syncopated beats highlighted by Michael and Vic that make this one pop.
