O’s Notes: They opened with “Nardis” and we were immediately impressed with their musical abilities as bassist Boris Kozlov and Maslov (p) blazed through the changes like they were glued together. Louis Conte (perc) and Vinnie Colaiuta (d) kept the pace and provided sharp accents. It got even better form there with “Hawaiian Evening”, the 1st of seven Maslov originals featuring solos from Hubert Laws (fl), Alex Berenson (t) and Bob Sheppard (ts). That groove continues over the balance of the set making this a rather cool swinging session.
