O’s Notes: Mike is a hard driving fusion guitarist that delivers. We’ve known that since we first encountered him live in Paris several years ago. His opener “Tumble Home” reinforced our memories. He has also surrounded himself with some excellent musicians in Richard Bona (b), Roy Hargrove (t), Jim Beard (p, organ), Kim Thompson (d) and Dave Weckl (d). The combination of these ingredients makes a very good session. We liked the peaceful passion of “We’re With You” with Gregoire Maret’s harmonica adding to the Southwestern groove and the funky feel of “Roll With It” with Victor Wooten (b) exchanging notes with Stern.
