O’s Notes: Moritz (p) and The Contemporary Band: Steven Bernstein (t), Sebastian Hess (cello), Ralph Beerkircher (g), Georg Breinschmid (b) and Gerry Hemmingway (d) provide an excellent backdrop for the vocals of Céline Rudolph. She has a soft voice that works romantically as well as a jazz instrument. The music is a haunting adventure based on poetry about the Winchester Mansion in San Francisco. The mystery surrounding the mansion and Anne Sexton’s poetry border on the edge of the brink, perfect for simulating jazz creativity and this fascinating set.
