O’s Notes: Veteran pianist Ehud Asherie follows up“The Late Set, his duet with Hilary Gardner, with“Wild Man Blues. This time Asherie works in a trio with bassist Peter Washington and Rodney Green on drums. They open with the title track and proceed to warm up the audience with eight classics. It’s a studio session but it felt like we were in a club. Ehud displays his prowess on “Flying Down To Rio” accelerating the pace without losing any feeling. There’s bounce on “Chasin’ the Bird”, a taste of bossa nova on “Na Baixa Do Sapateiro”, and a sweet groove on “Oh, Lady Be Good”. It’s an entertaining session.
