O’s Notes: Korean vocalist Yeahwon Shin releases her debut recording focused on the music of Brazil. She has a near obsession with samba as she relates to the culture and the music and has studied it for many years. She sings in Portuguese and continues and continues studying intensely. Yeahwon teams with a strong cast that includes drummer Jeff Ballard, Ben Street (b) and percussionist Cyro Baptista. Guest saxophonist Mark Turner appears on “Sae Ya Sae Ya” one of two Korean folk songs that fit well in the mix. We enjoyed many songs especially the classics “Inœtil Paisagem” and “Dindi”. Shin’s voice and the music are beautiful and easy to embrace.
