O’s Notes: Pianist Kevin Hays leads a trio with Doug Weiss (b) and Bill Stewart (d). He opens with “You’ve Got A Friend”, the first of seven covers written by some of the best composers ever. His arrangement of “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” and “Think of One” are unique and fresh. We also enjoyed the spirited Charlie Parker tune, “Cheryl”. Hays shows his versatility and creativity. The approach is simple yet sophisticated enough to capture your attention. We’re anxious to see what he has on deck, perhaps some of his own compositions?
