O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Terry Gibbs presents a wide variety of classics. Like most of his projects these are well done! Check out “Lemon Drop” pairing Terry with Sam Most (flute). They exchange instrumental leads and vocal scats. It’s glued together by pianist Tom Ranier who also shines on “Salt Peanuts”. The full string section makes songs like “If You Could See Me Now” very warm and inviting while adding energy to “Groovin’ High”. Terry’s arrangements leave enough space for soloists to fully extend making the listener feel like they are at a live concert. Special guests Nicholas Payton (t) and James Moody (sax) further embellish this superb set!
