O’s Notes: Pianist Håkon Skogstad is a world-renowned artist who’s produced several tango recordings since 2008. 8 Concepts of Tango is the latest in a trilogy inspired by the legendary Astor Piazzolla. Håkon composed eight new compositions for eight talented artists. There is an abundance of passion locked up in his music, with the best performances illustrating a full romantic exchange, an excellent illustration of the artform. There’s mystery and suspense in “A Contemplative Rhapsody”. We also enjoyed “Retroreflections” and the escalating “Tango contra Tango”.
