O’s Notes: From the opener we were intrigued by the tight bass from Kai Eckhardt intermingled with syncopated drumbeats by Alan Hertz. Eric Levy’s synthesizers and the funky guitar of Fareed Hague make this baby hum! The lead lines on “Semos” are fleeting and shared by the entire band. This level of precision is there for the entire set. Kai shines on “Bass Solo”. We also enjoyed “7 Cows Jumping Over The Moon”. Garaj Mahal has a fresh, funky sound that carries some throwback elements of the late 1970’s yet feels at home in the 21st century.
