O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Steve Cole hits us with another winner on Pulse, his latest smooth jazz release on Mack Avenue Records. He invites a strong cast of musicians to join him including Ricky Peterson (B3, g), Paul Peterson (b), Khari Parker (d), Bernd Schoenhart (g) and co-producer David Mann (sax, fl, keyboards). The beats are funky and the riffs catchy all the way through. “Slinky”, “Minty Fresh” and the title track are among the best.
