O’s Notes: Terminal Stillness is an accurate description of trumpeter Jacob Varmus’ latest release. It is free jazz cast into a warm relaxing mode performed chamber jazz style. That is a mouthful to describe the recording. Varmus wrote most of the material drawing upon rich jazz and classical history to shape his vision. The sound is excellent using silence and dynamics as enhancements to his theme.
