O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Steve Pouchie teams up with producer/percussionist Wilson ‘Chembo’ Corniel to make North by Northeast. Diego Lopez (d), Solo Rodriguez (b), keyboardists Adan Pérez & Sam Barrios and Julio Botti (sax) are the core of Pouchie’s Latin Jazz Ensemble. There are four Pouchie originals scattered among creative arrangements of classics like “My Favorite Things” that are reborn with Pouchie’s touch. Ariel Santiago (fl) is featured on “Cuban Chant” and Jorge Maldonado sings on “Tus Ojos”. All together the ten contemporary selections are rich, punctuated and energizing.
