O’s Notes: Pianist Bill O’Connell teams up with his Latin All-Stars to bring us Heart Beat. The vibrant rhythm section varies the pulse and maintains balance and control at all tempos. “The Eyes of A Child” is a peaceful ballad featuring warm melodic harmonies from Herwig (tb) and Slagle (fl). They follow that with the explosive groove of “Awani” before again relaxing with the tranquil bossa nova of “Waters Of March” one of two covers in an otherwise all original session by O’Connell. It is an easily embraceable and enjoyable set.
