O’s Notes: Saxophonist John Petrucelli expands his quintet with strings on“Presence, his latest release, a live set. The music is warm and harmonic with the strings complimenting the rhythm section to help Petrucelli paint a rich, peaceful music-scape. Pianist Brett Williams adds several melodies with Peter Park (g), Paul Thompson (b) and Gusten Rudolph (d). Paul, Gusten and Brett have a cool funky exchange halfway through “Field of Heaven”, one of our favorites in the two-disc set of almost 82 minutes. We also enjoyed “For One To Know” and “Mercury Crossing”.
