O’s Notes: Church on Monday is a quintet lead by saxophonist Elias Haslanger with Dr. James Polk (organ), Tommy Howard (g), Daniel Durham (b) and Scott Laningham (d). They evolved in 2011 from Haslinger’s album and song of the same name and took up residence at Austin’s famous Continental Club Gallery. It’s been over six years and they’ve released for being there to give those of us outside of Texas a taste of bluesy, soul and the modern jazz, church experience! “Bolivia”, “ For Being There” and the sizzling finale, “Midnight Creeper” are standouts.
