O’s Notes: Jazz bassist and composer Matt Dwonszyk resides in Hartford Connecticut where he studied under Nat Reeves at The Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz (Univ. of Hartford). He released his debut Wonderful World about a year ago and it almost escaped our attention; we’re happy it didn’t! Matt is accompanied by strong musicians including Steve Davis (tb), Ed Fast (vibes, perc) and many of his former classmates from the McLean Institute. Sheila Johns softens things up a bit adding vocals on “My Soul”. We really enjoyed “Weak Incentive”, “Cuban Breeze” and “The Academy”. We anxiously await the next edition from Dwonszyk!
