O’s Notes: Jazz pianist, composer and producer Falkner Evans has been situated in the New York jazz scene since 1985. Marbles is his fifth album as a leader and it is a fine effort. Bassist Beldon Bullock and drummer Matt Wilson join Falkner to make a solid rhythm section. Guest Steve Nelson adds vibes on three selections notably the title track. “This From That” shines with the entire splendor of a large ensemble including solos from Ted Nash (a-sax) and Michael Blake (t-sax). They join with Ron Horton (t) for rich harmonies throughout the set. Evans shines on “Sing Alone” and does a fine job extracting the most from his team.
