O’s Notes: Los Pleneros de la 21 is a New York band formed in 1983 by percussionist Juan “Juango” Gutiérrez with his eye on celebrating the music of Puerto Rico in New York. This is a vibrant performance captured Live at Pregones, Bronx, NY on June 21, 2017. The lyrics and commentary are In Spanish and the music celebrates 35 years of Bomba and Plena (Puerto Rican dance music). Among the best songs are “Plena Penita”, “Don Pedro” and “María Antonia”. The tradition carries on today with no signs of disappearing!
