O’s Notes: Buffalo native, trumpeter and composer John Hasselbach III has made his way down state to New York City where he launches his debut Entrance. He’s in good company with band mates Wayne Escoffery (sax), Steve Davis (tb), Jonathan Barber (d), Luques Curtis (b) and Tabernacle Gable (p). We liked the blended brass on “Blood Orange”. Also John’s soft trumpet tone on “Body and Soul”. That’s the prevailing theme across nine selections over 48 minutes and it’s pleasurable indeed.
