O’s Notes: The Evening is a live set of delightful, jazzy, R&B ballads recorded at Apparatus in New York City in May, 2022. This design studio is a perfect home for the gospel rooted Jean (vocals) and Marcus (drums) Baylor. You will be mesmerized with Keith Loftis (sax) and Yasushi Nakamura (b) on “Tenderly”. Jean always shines on “We Swing ‘The Cypher’” and this live version is no exception as she jousts with Darren Barrett (t), Terry Brewer (p) and Loftis. The soft, engaging “Love Makes Me Sing” brought out the best from the crowd! Nakamura opens “2020” before we go to church on “Only Believe”, a fitting finale.
