O’s Notes: This is a set of nine Latin-fusion ballads featuring Uruguayan-born/Toronto-based Valeria Matzner. She is scatting in concert with the syncopated beats of a strong band that includes composer, arranger, Scott Metcalfe (keyboards), Max Senitt (d), Andrew Stewart (b), Juan Carlos Medrano (perc), Alexis Baró (t), Christian Overton (tb) and several others. Highlights are “Esa Tristeza”, “Grey”, “Forcas D’Alma”, and the title track. We also enjoyed the warm ballad, “Los Artistas”. The lyrics are in Spanish and English. We preferred her native tongue. Tamborilero is a pleasant 38-minute session.
