O’s Notes: Bassist Rodney Jordan pays homage to his roots on Memphis Blue. His assembles a like-minded band with Melvin Jones (t), Louis Heriveaux (p), Mark Sterbank (sax), and Quentin E. Baxter (d). They play a mix of standards and originals starting with the hope that “This Storm Will Pass” with nice sax, piano, and trumpet solos. There’s a serious opening bass solo on the title track, an unusual arrangement of “Autumn Leaves”, and a cool swagger on “The Art of Blakey” with a commemorating solo by Baxter.
