O’s Notes: Jazz trumpeter, percussionist, composer Etienne Charles visited the Geechee communizes of coastal Georgia and South Carolina examining the culture and music of the people. His inspirations are reflected on Gullah Roots. The band includes Godwin Louis (a-sax), Alex Wintz (g), Russell Hall (b), Christian Sands (keyboards), Harvel Nakundi (d) and a wealth of special guests. The music is passionate, funky, earthy and emotional. We enjoyed the experience, supported by the liner notes and rich vocals.
