O’s Notes: Freedom Art Quartet is Omar Kabir (t, flugelhorn shells, didgerido), Alfredo Chen (a-Sax), Adam Lane (b), and composer Lloyd Haber (d, perc). Their style is hard bop with contagious improvisation. They play in unison and with a little cat and mouse on the opener, “Stop Watch” and “Chattermouth”. They swing hard on “Counterbalance” before relaxing with the lazy feel of “Interpretation”. We also enjoyed the energetic “First Dance”.
