O’s Notes: New York-based trombonist Ryan Keberle returns with Choro Das Aguas, his third collaboration with Collectiv Do Brasil, a trio including Paulinho Vicente (d), Felipe Silveira (p), and Felipe Brisola (b). They pay homage to the legendary Ivan Lins on his 80th birthday. This is Brasilian Popular Music (MPB) that we equate to modern, jazzy, bossa nova. We liked “Quintessence” & “Saindo de Mim” featuring Keberle and Silveira, “Rei do Carnaval”, and “Essa Maré” with a fine bass solo by Brisola. The warmth of Ryan’s horn throughout this session is comforting.
