O’s Notes: Trumpeter Glenn Makos leads his band Brū with Craig Yaremko (sax), Victor Lin (Rhodes), Sebastian de Urquiza (b), and Daniel Silva (d). The funky rhythm section sets the tone over the entire session, and it’s a good one, incorporating some Brazilian jazz, and jazz-fusion. Silva explodes on “Sulawesi”, “Liquid Sunshine” features Lin’s fleeting keyboard work, Yaremko and Urquiza shine on “The Last Straw”, and Makos leads the title track and the mellow “Sunflower Morning”. That balance of power extends across the entire session.
