O’s Notes: Jerry Weldon is a polished tenor saxophonist and bandleader who has performed in many great bands with Lionel Hampton, Harry Connick, Jr., Jack McDuff, and Art Blakey. Weldon’s current band includes Alonzo Demetrius (t), Peter Li (tb), Mike Bond (p), Jason Clotter (b), and Carmen Intorre Jr. (d). They are The Summit. They perform live at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center in New Jersey. It is a swinging set of eight tunes that are mostly at breakneck pace, but Jerry gets passionate on “Good Morning Heartache”. We also enjoyed “You Go to My Head” and the classic “On The Sunny Side Of The Street”.
