O’s Notes: Pianist Donald Vega leads his Latin jazz sextet with Carly Maldonado (perc), Raul Reyes (b), Pete Van Nostrand (d), Brandon Lee (t), and David DeJesus (sax). They serve up an energetic set of ten songs on Play It Forward, Vega’s gratitude for the mentorship’s that helped shape his life and music. We liked the mid-tempo tunes like “La Flor “, “Smilin’ Billy”, & “Into The Unknown”, ballads like “Habla Conmigo”, and upbeat swingers like “McKibbon’s Bugalu”. It’s enjoyable, fresh and on point!
