O’s Notes: Colombian guitarist, producer Juan Carlos Quintero leads his quintet with Eddie Resto (b), Joe Rotondi (p), Joey DeLeon (perc), and Aaron Serfaty (d) for his latest album The Story of Love. He freshens Latin classics from his parent’s collection overlaying his signature and bringing them into today’s modern jazz world. Guest veterans Justo Almario (fl, cl) and Luis Conte (perc) add special touches. They open with a taste of calypso on “Poodle Mambo”, transforming classics like “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”, “Poinciana”, “Corcovado”, and “Tres Palabras”. Quintero’s liquid guitar work encourages listeners to dance and smile in a session that is more than a collection of covers. It felt so good that he added five more tracks to create a Deluxe Edition arriving this fall.
