O’s Notes: While many people are aware of the connection between music and mathematics, Nigerian Professor Lawrence Udeigwe practices in both arenas. His latest recording, Four Lemmas is organized around mathematical structures: orthogonality, sparse matrix, local maximum, and stable equilibrium, but he doesn’t forget the funk! The band is Udeigwe (p, vocals), Steph Clement (t), Wayne Tucker (t), Rade Bema (b) and Josh Green (d). There are eight original songs. Our favorites are “Lemma III: Local Maximum”, “Corollary III: Pose FM”, and “Lemma IV: Stable Equilibrium”. Don’t worry about the theorems, enjoy the music!
