O’s Notes: Fathead takes nine cool and jazz classics and makes them sparkle on Cityscape. There are a couple of cinema tunes including “It Was A Very Good Year” and “Goldfinger”. Newman is playing with a septet including Howard Johnson and David Leonhardt. Three of the songs are rejuvenated versions from his 1977 album, Front Money notably “Sneakin’ In. We also like “Flankin'” with it’s cool vamp featuring Newman on flute. David wrote both of these and they cap a nice session.
