O’s Notes: Bela Mavrák is a European balladeer with a fascination for Cuban music. He is trained in classics and we hear that coming through strongly. There are also hints of pop with an ample dose of Latin flavor imparted by the Cuban musicians who support him. The most synergistic of the 19 selections are “Besame Mucho”, “Charade”, “Smile” and the ever-popular “Lili Marleen”. There is a DVD included that is well done with very good video footage.
