O’s Notes: Trombeatz is a Latin band led by trombonist and musical director Hommy Ramos. The core quintet includes Nelson Bello (congas, perc), Alex ‘Apolo‘ Ayala (bajo), Felipe Fournier (vibes, perc) and Joel Mateo (d). There are eight special guests sprinkled through the set. The music is“A Caribbean Thing“focused on trombone melodies placed on top of syncopated jazz rhythms with an abundance of percussion. It’s all too brief with five selections at ~26 minutes but what’s here is good, notably ‘A Viva Voz‘, ‘M3‘ and ‘Something New‘.
