O’s Notes: Dizzy appears live in Chicago late in his career. He is joined by Sayyad Abdul Al-Kahbyyr (sax, fl, cl), Walter Davis, Jr. (p), John Lee (b) and Nasyr Abdul Al-Kahbyyr (d). Gillespie was the consummate entertainer and this performance catches him singing, dancing, scatting, engaging the audience and of course playing the trumpet. We liked the finale “A Night In Tunisia” best. Dizzy engages the entire band, showcasing each member. The session is fun and exciting for all.
