O’s Notes: The Yellowjackets are a time-tested band with a formula that seems to defy the effects of time. A Rise In The Road is no exception as they again find a groove that is fresh and ready for air play! Felix Pastorius (Jaco’s son) replaces Jimmy Haslip on bass joining Will Kennedy (d), Russell Ferrante (keyboards) and Bob Mintzer (sax). Ambrose Akinmusire (t) makes a guest appearance on three selections. The music ranges from a cool swing to mellow ballads. The groove is not to smooth, not too deep. It is the blend that has led to decades of success on the contemporary jazz charts.
