O’s Notes: Chicago-based trumpeter, composer, and arranger Paul Dietrich skinnies down his large ensemble to a quartet with Matt Gold (g), Brian Courage (b), and Devin Drobka (d). Their sound is a dark, warm, contemporary fusion with lots of room for improvisation. Dietrich’s fifth album adds yet another dimension to his repertoire. The relaxing “Gray” and more upbeat “Dry County” were among the best.
