O’s Notes: Cinnamon Flower is a reissue of late Charlie Rouse’s 1977 release with an addition 30 minutes of previously unreleased takes of the original material along with the first release of Meeting House. There are strong performances by Claudio Roditi (t), Ron Carter (b), and Bernard Purdie (d). The music is still relevant and packed with energy. We like the hints of Brazilian samba notably on “Disenchantment”, “Clover and Cinnamon”, “Waiting On The Corner”, Charlie’s warm sax on “Quiet Pictures”, and “Backwoods Echo”.
